Las Vegas has its own Cuban artist

by Maria Fundora

Meet contemporary artist Angel Delgado a local resident here in Las Vegas who has shown his artwork locally at the Amanda Harris Gallery of Contemporary Arts. Originally from Cuba he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Arts in Havana Cuba.

Angel’s inspiration and themes come from his time served in a Cuban prison. While in prison he learned with his fellow captives how to express his opinion in a creative form by using cold cream, soaps, and scarves with colored pencils. He invented his personal pictograph language, which has served to express his feelings and opinions. His current soaps and scarves, as well as his powerful performance hold the same passion and reflects his view on the social panorama of what some would call modern day society.

They are works of cleansing but in no way means to forget or to erase what happened. Even in some of his artwork you will find some daintiness, humor, and visible signs of human conditions that are reflected comparing everyday objects, views of prison and human shapes, Angel creates an arrangement of contemporary art that reminds you of what art is and can be. You can keep updated on his events by going to his Facebook page where you will be able to view any upcoming events.
